A week at Merchiston
Monday - This is regarded as a club day. A hat game (Jumbles we call it) is played on Monday evenings.
All members playing in this are asked to draw a rink and position from the hat. All play the same number of ends.
During the game players move position e.g. a lead will move to second after 4 ends. After each prescribed number of ends the player will move position again. This allows all members a chance to play in all rink positions.
After the game has been completed all cards are compared and the highest up winners receive a small monetary payment. A competition is run throughout the season and the person leading the table on points at the end of the year receives a memento at the prize-giving dance.
Tuesday - At 2.00 pm. we play our Senior League games against clubs in the South Edinburgh Seniors Bowling Association. In the evening, early in the season rinks are needed for SBA ties which have been allocated to the green.
Domestic ties can be played on rinks that are not in use for representative games.
Wednesday - Is the night we play league games in the Edinburgh Bowling Leagues.
Two sixteens are fielded and all clubs are played against on a home and away basis.
Thursday - At night early in the season Edinburgh & Leith B. A. ties are allocated to our green restricting playing times but if no ties are on then domestic ties can be played.
Friday - This is the night when most domestic ties take place. Ties can be played at specified times throughout the day.
Saturday - A mixed hat afternoon is held but any person wishing to play a tie can do so before the hat game or after.
On some occasions competitions are organised internally and friendly matches are undertaken in the afternoon.
Sunday - Again competitions may have been arranged on this day but ties can be played after the competition finishes.
